WRAS Picks the SEC - Week 5

Auburn (+1.5) @ Tennessee

Walt Flanagan: I do not care that neither of these teams are ranked, this has the feel of as big a game as Auburn has played since 2006. Why? The national media hasn't ranked AU yet even though their margins of victory are 24, 25, 11 and 24. Has there ever been an Auburn team that's 4-0 with wins like that? I doubt it but I also can't blame the media. Auburn was so bad last year it has taken them a while to come around. I'm starting to see it with several articles written about Gustav and his offense but it takes wins more than anything else. Auburn needs this game, Tennessee wants it. That's the difference (not to mention at least 3 Crompton turnovers). Wrong team favored! Auburn 30 - Tennessee 17

Morris Fenderbaum: Auburn 34 - Tennessee 23

Mickey Goldmill: Can Auburn keep its momentum going as it takes to the road for the first time in ’09? Can the Volunteers avoid the mistakes that have plagued their offense? This game is “strong on strong”. Auburn’s 3rd ranked offensive attack against UT’s 8th ranked defense. Yeah, I’m biased but I can’t help but believe if Auburn is able to execute its offense at least to 85% of the productivity we have seen so far this year, UT will not be able to keep up. On Auburn's last trip to Knoxville in ’04, Junior Rosegreen picked off four passes. The way Jonathan Crompton has been floating the pigskin up Darren Bates may have the opportunity to match Rosegreen’s feat. Auburn must shore up its special teams play which could be the difference maker. Get off the tracks, the trains a coming! AU 36 – UT 24

SPUAT (-17) @ Kentucky

Walt Flanagan: Beat up team with a coach who tweets stuff like this, "Had a skin cancer cut out of my lower leg. Old age is not much fun. Planed tomorrow's practice and we will have most of our guys back" http://twitter.com/UKcoachbrooks/status/4505692964 versus the most physical team in the SEC? That does not sound like a recipe for UK success...SPUAT 38 - UK 13

Morris Fenderbaum: SPUAT 38 - Kentucky 17

Mickey Goldmill: Kentucky makes great Bourbon Whiskey and sometimes basketball and horse racing. Not Football. That is all...Turds 38 – UK 14

Ole Miss (-9.5) @ Vanderbilt

Walt Flanagan: It happend sooner than I thought but you can't stop the inevitable. Ole Miss is overrated. I thought they'd beat USC but I forgot what a trap the Thursday night game is when you are on the road versus an unranked team. The Rebels didn't sound like they were ready for prime time and they sure looked it. Will they get back to playing Ole Miss Football? Yes, if you mean mediocre...Ole Miss 21 - Vandy 14

Morris Fenderbaum: Ole Miss 20 - Vandy 10

Mickey Goldmill: So how fortunate is Ole Miss to have Vandy as their permanent foe from the SEC East? Should be an automatic W, right? In the words of that idiot on College Gameday, not so fast my friend! UM’s record versus the Commodores since the divisional split in ’92 is 12-5 and they are 46-35-2 all time against Vandy. The Rebels are a much more talented club and should win this one, but Mickey has a feeling Vandy will keep it close...Old South 28 – New South 21

LSU (+2.5) @ Georgia

Walt Flanagan: There are only 2 teams in Les Miles' career that he has played and never beaten. One is Texas. The other? UGay 31 - LSU 30

Morris Fenderbaum: UGay 34 - LSU 31

Mickey Goldmill: Can you imagine the disgustingness that will be the landfill that was once North Campus as the carnies come to town?

The corndogs have yet to impress and the UGay defense has been exposed repeatedly. Look for LSU to win a physical game in the trenches...35 – 31

Georgia Tech (-4.5) @ Mississippi State

Walt Flanagan: I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer,A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer, Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear, I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer. Oh, if I had a daughter, sir, I'd dress her in White and Gold, And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold. But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do. He would yell, "To Hell with Georgia," like his daddy used to do. Oh, I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds, A college bell to put it in and a clapper to stir it around. I'd drink to all good fellows who come from far and near. I'm a ramblin', gamblin', hell of an engineer.

I look for GT's engineers to take MSU engineers' cowbells, stir around a little rum and sugar with a clapper (whatever the hell that is) and bring MSU back down to earth...GT 31 - MSU 20

Morris Fenderbaum: MSU 24 - GT 23

Mickey Goldmill: Ah, The Perfect Option plays three out of conference games against their former foes of the SEC during their ’09 campaign beginning with MSU, followed by Vandy and in-state rival UGay. Has the perfect option been figured out? Tech looked disappointing against Miami, but still sit at 3-1 on the season. Something tells Mickey that Miss State will give Tech all they want. State wins a big one at home and the rambling wreck returns to the ratio...Miss. State 24 – GT 23

Arkansas (-1.5) @ Texas A&M (at Jerry Jones HDTV Stadium)

Walt Flanagan: So, Bobby Petrino, you don't think your team believed it could beat Alabama? Who's fault is that? It's yours you slimy sack and you're not going to enjoy watching your face squirm on 26,000 square feet of high definition...TAMU 35 - Arkansas 31

Morris Fenderbaum: TAMU 38 - Arkansas 33

Mickey Goldmill: How big of a let down is it when you have an intersectional game, a border war of sorts between former members of the now defunct Southwest Conference in the newest and most grandioso stadium on the planet when the two teams playing each other are average at best? Arkansas looked bad against SPUAT last week and to be honest I haven’t seen aTm play yet. They are 3-0 and have beaten New Mexico, Utah State, and UAB. Nothing to write home about. Mickey’s going with the SEC in this one...Arkansas 35 – aTm 30

South Carolina State @ South Carolina (no line)

Walt Flanagan: What a disgrace. How in the world can South Carolina be playing a directional school on the first weekend of October? If Spurrier was alive, he never would have allowed this.

Morris Fenderbaum: South Carolina 38 - SC State 3

Mickey Goldmill: Snot Bubbles...Cocks 38 – SC St 7

Last Week:
Walt (7-1 straight up, 2-6 versus the spread)
Morris (8-0, 4-4)
Mickey (8-0, 4-4)

Total:
Walt (29-6, 17-13)
Morris (34-1, 18-12)
Mickey (32-3, 14-16)
