This Could Get Ugly, And That's Saying A Lot For These Two Fan Bases

You can guaran-fuckin-tee there will be a huge incident when the Corndogs go up to Morgantown and get a taste of what the Hillbillies dish out. Someone could die. Two forces like this haven't collided since Chuck Norris and Mr. T ran into each other and created the 1980s.

Auburn Beats Ole Miss

Big win last night for the Tigers as they move to 18-10 overall and 7-6 in conference. They are now in 2nd place in the SECW since they own the tiebreaker right now over Mississippi State. If they can hang on and get a first round bye in the SEC tournament, that would be large. I never thought I'd say this but they have an outside shot at making the big dance. It's not likely but if they can finish at least 9-7 in conference, win 20 regular season games and win a game or two in the conference tournament, stranger things have happened. It's not going to be easy on the road against Mississippi State and UAT the next two games and hopefully Beard-Eaves will be packed versus LSU in the last home game of the season. If they beat a struggling MSU team Saturday, watch out.

Joke of the Day

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweatshirt.

Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?"

"It depends," I replied. "What does it say on your shirt?"

He yelled back, "University of Alabama."

Bammer of the Week

Let's just go ahead and get this out of the way. We didn't even have to wait the whole week to name Andre Smith, "Bammer of the Week" as he secured it on Sunday. Strong work (tongue firmly implanted in cheek).

I Watched A Women's Basketball Game For The First Time Last Night

That's right, I said it. I watched the Auburn-Vandy game last night. Now, the athleticism is severely lacking and it pains me to watch people clang the ball off the bottom of the rim during a game and they don't as much shoot long range shots as heave it towards the rim but it wasn't that bad. Several times I would see a cutter under the basket and the defender would just let them go while I'm hollering, "pass it!" But I then realized what would have been a quick pass or an alley-oop in the men's game just can't happen in the women's. So I got used to that after a while.

Even though Auburn should have won this game, they easily had the best athletes on the floor (Boddie, Smalley, Bonner), I still like their chances to win the SEC regular season title. If Auburn had played with half the urgency they played with in the second half, they win by 10 points. But Vandy came out strong and Auburn didn't match it and had too big a whole to climb. Boddie is quick and Smalley (even with my comment about shooting earlier) can hit the open three.

Here are Auburn and Vandy's remaining schedules as they are the only two teams left who have the best shot at winning the title:

AU plays at home versus UGa and Arkansas,
Vandy is on the road at Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Auburn needs to win out since Vandy has the tiebreaker and hope that the 'Dores lose a game. Auburn has already lost to Georgia but the Dawgs and the Hogs are struggling and Auburn should not lose either of these games at home. Vandy has a much tougher road. Ole Miss is 4-7 in conference but the trip to Tennessee will be huge. Tennessee is down this year but at Tennessee is at Tennessee. That will not be easy.

Hopefully Auburn will get a game on ESPN soon and hold on to the regular season title and a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Oh, and by the way, Alabama is 0-11 this year, they suck worse than the men.

Taunting In College Football

So, the NCAA Rules Committee is thinking about having the penalty on taunting be a live ball penalty and will negate the play?

This is a terrible idea. I can't wait to see the uproar if this passes and a team loses a game because of this. The debate over the Washington-BYU game last year will be nothing compared to this.

A player taunting someone else while going into the endzone does not have any bearing on the play's outcome. If a player holds or jumps offsides during a touchdown, then yes, that play should come back and a penalty assessed from the line of scrimmage or the spot of the foul. But the player still would have scored a touchdown if he was high-stepping, doing a backflip or soulja-boying into the endzone. This puts too much power into the referee's hands and they are already trigger-happy with throwing celebration flags (see Washington-BYU).

It will be a huge mistake if this rule change passes. Make the kid sit out a play or fine the coach, but don't effect the outcome of a game because a player got a little too excited.

Would Gruden be better than Kiffin? I think so. UT is more likely to stop playing "Rocky Top" than they are to fire Kiffin now. Finebum just wanted to be the first to call for his head. That is all.

The Best Part About Signing Day...

...is that when Auburn fans talk about it on the radio or whatever, they are excited about DeAngelo Benton or Emory Blake while all SPUAT fans can talk about are their Rivals or Luginbill ranking and how many points they have. I wonder if they even know who signed with them? Maybe they just refer to them by their number of stars or their Rivals.com rating. We all know about their love for arbitrary numbers.

Dontae Aycock's Scholarship Offer Pulled From Georgia Tech

GT head coach Paul Johnson pulled Aycock's offer after telling him that if he visited another school after committing to the Yellow Jackets the offer would be off the table. Aycock visited Auburn this weekend and it looks like he will now sign with Auburn.

I see where Johnson is coming from and the word "commitment" doesn't have the same meaning in "crootin" as it does in the real world but I don't think Johnson should pull offers because a kid takes one of his visits to another school. Johnson would share pull this kid's offer out from under him if someone he wanted more showed interest in GT. And if Johnson is confident enough in his program, the school and his recruiting ability; then say we'll take all other school's best shots and GT will still get the kid. But he didn't show that confidence.

Congratulations, Rod Hood
